Parks in Barcelona

Barcelona has many parks. The best known is the Park Guell, designed by Antoni Gaudi in the district of Gracia, Montjuich Park, located in the Barcelona_parkmountains of the same name, and the Parque de la Ciudadela (Parc de la Ciutadella), located in the center of the city, where you can find the Parliament of Catalonia and the Barcelona Zoo.  The Parque de Diagonal Mar is the largest in the city, designed by Enric Miralles.

The Park and the Forum is the venue which hosted the Universal Forum of Cultures 2004.   The Maze of Horta is a park where the trees are planted so that they create a maze where children and adults spend time having fun. Other smaller parks are the Industrial Park of Spain, in the neighborhood of Sants, Clot Park near the Plaza de las Glorias and Turo Park, next to Plaza Francesc Macia.

Montjuic and Tibidabo

Two mountains dominate the city. Montjuic is a small hill located near the port, whose summit is an old military fort that served to monitor the entrance to Barcelona from the sea. At the foot of this mountain are the Olympic installations, such as the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium, the Sant Jordi Palace, designed by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki, and the Picornell swimming pools.

Montjuic is also found in the botanical garden, featuring a unique collection of cactus. Tibidabo, the highest part of town is another hill in Barcelona. You can ride by car, bus or a tram and a funicular. Tibidabo is located in the Sacred Heart Church, visible from across the city.  The Tibidabo Amusement Park and the Tower of Collserola telecommunications antenna are designed by Norman Foster and features a lookout.
