Beaches of Barcelona

One of the attractions that Barcelona has built up in recent years are its beaches. Thanks to the regeneration of the coastline in 1992, during the Olympic Games, Barcelona now has six beaches that occupy more than 4.2 linear miles of coastline.

The beaches are full downtown, are connected to the center and are Barcelona beachlocated just minutes from anywhere in the city. All are equipped with a wide range of facilities: showers; security; Red Cross and in some cases, changing rooms, rental of deck chairs, bars etc.  The beaches are subjected to cleaning every day throughout the year, and all have the blue flag of the European Union approval to its excellence.

According to data from the Barcelona City Council, each year Barcelona beaches receive more than seven million bathers. While most are concentrated in the warm weather months between May and September, the citizens and visitors can also enjoy the beach the rest of the year, as they are equipped for tennis, beach volleyball and other sports.

On the beach of Barceloneta, near the Hotel Arts is a municipal art thalassotherapy center called the Marine Sports Center and is equipped with swimming pools with seawater, allowing the enjoyment of sports and health services throughout the year. The six beaches are from east to west, the beach of San Sebastian, Barceloneta, Nova Icaria, Bogatell, Mar Bella and New Mar Bella. In the latter there is a space reserved for nude sunbathing.
