Barcelona Tourist

Barcelona is a city located in northeastern Spain, the capital of Catalonia, in the province and region of Barcelona. On the shores of the Barcelona tourism 1Mediterranean Sea, Barcelona is located approximately 120 km south of the Pyrenees mountains and the French border on a plain bounded by the sea to the east, the Sierra Collserola west, the river Llobregat to the south and the Besós River to the north. Fomerly the capital of Barcelona, it is often mentioned under the name of Ciudad Condal.

With a population of 1,615,908 inhabitants (2008), Barcelona is the second largest Spanish city and the tenth most populated of the European Union. The Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, with 36 municipalities, has a population of 3,186,461 inhabitants and an area of 636 km ². The metropolitan area of Barcelona is the delineation urban core as officially defined, but it would be included in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, which would extend throughout the catchment area of the city, with 4,928,852 (2008) .

Barcelona has been the scene of world events that have helped shape the city and give it international renown. The most relevant are the Universal Exhibition of 1888 and 1929, and the Summer Olympics of 1992. Barcelona is also the headquarters of the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean Geografía

Location

Located on the Mediterranean coast of Spain, Barcelona is built on a platform consisting of a slight slope between the deltas of the rivers Llobregat, southwest, and Besós, northeast, southeast; it is bounded by the coastline and the northwest by the Sierra Collserola (with the top of Tibidabo 516.2 m highest point) below parallel with the coastline.

Part of Barcelona closer to the mountain coastline is dotted by small peaks some of which are urban and others are crowned parks, including: Caramel (265.6 meters), Monterols (127.3 meters), the Putxet ( 182.7 meters), the -Barcelona.Tibidabo.Torre.CollserolaRovira (206.8 meters) and the Turó Peira (138 meters). But the top most famous peaks of Barcelona are located just above the coastline and separating the city from the delta of the Llobregat: the mountain of Montjuïc (184.8 meters).
City Limits

The municipal limits of the city, from south to northeast and clockwise, include the municipalities of: El Prat de Llobregat, Hospitalet de Llobregat, Esplugues de Llobregat, Desvern San Justo, San Feliu de Llobregat, Molins de Rei, Sant Cugat del Vallés, Sardañola del Vallés, and Moncada Reixach, Santa Coloma de Gramanet and San Adrián de Besós. The first two and last two are the municipalities with which the city keeps a close contact. A close urban grid connects these towns; San Cugat del Vallés and Sardañola del Vallés Barcelona are far apart, as the mountains and coastal natural park of Tibidabo act as natural barriers.

A small part of the town of Barcelona is on the slope of the Sierra de Llobregat Collserola. Vallvidrera and Les Planes are just inside the natural park Collserola. It also forms part of the town of Santa Cruz Olorda, riding between the Valley and Lower West Llobregat.
